Introducing our conductor

About Sean
Sean Morris is a London-based conductor who has spent most of his early career working with semi-professional and amateur orchestras, choirs, and chamber groups in the UK and abroad. A firm believer in the power and importance of community music making, Sean is delighted to be appointed the new conductor of Lambeth Wind Orchestra for the 26/27 season.
Sean began his conducting studies with his now good friend Phillip Scott (former NYWE) while studying at Well’s Cathedral School, and has gone on to observe and receive tuition from eminent
conductors and gurus Christopher Aide, Collin Metters, Sian Edwards, Toby Purser, and Raffaello Samglibini and is a former pupil of the George Hurst Conducting School.
As conductor Sean has held positions with the Orpington Symphony Orchestra and The King’s Players, and has performed regularly with King’s Opera and new opera group Spectra Ensemble. He has also founded several ensembles, most notably his own orchestra, New Age Ensemble.
An advocate for new music, Sean works regularly with young composers to give them a platform. While studying at King’s College London, Sean founded the Modern Music Society, the university’s first student body addressing music from the 20th Century to present day. Since then, he has routinely worked with as an opera and choral MD for contemporary works. Notably, Sean has premiered Lewis Coenen-Rowe’s Collision (2017) at Arcola Theatre Opera Festival and later
Last Thursday (2018); Matthew King’s fairytale opera The Snow Queen (1994); and most recently led performances of Benjamin Britten’s masterpiece The Turn of the Screw.
Alongside LWO, Sean holds the post of MD for the Saturday Morning Orchestra in Reading.
A trumpeter by training and keen musicologist, Sean has received scholarships and awards for musical and academic pursuits from Wells Cathedral School, the Royal Welsh College of Music
and Drama, King’s College London, and University of Oxford.
