Lambeth Wind Orchestra is a concert band based in Herne Hill, south London, rehearsing and performing a varied programme of music both for fun and for the community. We play classical arrangements, marches, popular music and modern pieces. Our concert programmes have included music by Gustav Holst, Percy Grainger, Philip Sparke, Buxton Orr, Ralph Vaughan Williams and Haydn Wood and we have presented world premieres of pieces by Andy Bungay, Roger Cawkwell and Martin Jones, with a further one by Elizabeth Winters scheduled for autumn 2010.
LWO is keen to encourage and promote new music for concert band, collaborative projects with schools/community groups, recordings, small tours, recognition of little-known works for band and appreciation of British Light Music. If you are interested in finding out more about future projects or joining the band, please get in touch via ‘contact’.
Their conductor is John Holland, a local musician and composer, originally from Watford but now settled in Forest Hill. He has over 20 years of playing and conducting experience with brass and wind bands across London and the Home Counties and actively encourages positive music-making in the community at all levels of ability. He won a British Composer Award in 2008 (Making Music Award) for his chamber orchestra piece, ‘Green Sky’.”
